Investing in the Future Through Gardening

Wellness is not always just about our individual wellbeing, it’s about affecting change for the next generations and even our environment. Planting a tree or creating a garden is a way of investing in the future, for example, even after moving on. My aunt who just recently passed away last week was someone who lived by paying it forward. She was an integral part to the creation of the Butterfly Garden at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). Here, she sourced native plants from the area where their beauty did not go unnoticed. However, this was fundamental to the longevity of the garden, as attracting butterflies and bees for those who visited the hospital was not only for the visual effect, but helped to insure that the plants would be pollinated and continue to grow each year. She created a sanctuary for healing with her green thumb, and that’s something I want to do in her honour. I want to invest in the future by growing plants and creating a garden of my own. As it’s famously said, “To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow.” And that’s exactly what my aunt did. She always believed in a better tomorrow, advocating for wellness and giving others healing through her own service. Although, she is dearly missed and loved by everyone she knew, her garden will continue to grow each year as a reminder of her passion for the wellbeing of others. We miss her so much already. #wellness #CHEO #garden #ottawa #wellnesswarrior #gardening #wellnesswonderwoman #wellnesswonderwomanlife #earth #well #future
