Creating a Sacred Space During Quarantine

Hey all,
Now more than ever, I have craved a space of my own for personal meditation and spiritual sacredness. With everyone home all day, every day, I have needed a place that sparks meaning into my meditations.
Surprisingly, I don't really have a space to meditate and I've been practicing meditation for a few years now. My practice isn't always perfect and that's ok. If it was easy it wouldn't be worth doing. However, as of late, I have needed a space for meditation solely dedicated to a quiet still place of reprieve for my thoughts and my feelings.
Here are 4 ways to create a sacred space during quarantine…
Face the sunrise. I have done a lot of reading about where to put altars and meditation spaces. Facing east, in the direction of the sunrise, will help shed new light on our meditations. In my opinion, facing east helps us to connect with the natural world as we are facing the sun. “Paramhansa Yogananda explains that subtle rays of wisdom radiate westward over the earth. If we face East when we meditate, we receive these currents. They help us to attain inner enlightenment.” Why not soak up those currents and the sun's rays?
Make it personal! We all have items/tokens/symbols that give meaning to our practice. Add things to your space that inspires you to be better and work on your self-healing, self-love, and your meditation. It's about what your soul desires and this space should reflect as such. Have words of affirmation that set your meditations in motion. Be sure to have your space away from foot traffic, because it will be challenging to meditate with every member of the house walking by.
Comfort is key. Blankets and pillows are your friends, add as many or as few as you like. But this is about being able to sit for an extended period of time and being uncomfortable will make it harder to listen to your breath and listen to your soul's message. There are unique meditation chairs available, but they can be quite pricey. Whatever you decide, find comfort and you will slip into your meditation with ease!
Have patience! Meditation and creating a sacred space is a continual process. It is designated to be a place of healing and restoration. So allow yourself grace and understanding during this time. Take the time you need to get into the right headspace and understand that every day will look different. Some meditation sessions will be easier than others. Breathe deeply and if you need guidance there are apps and endless youtube videos that can take you through a guided meditation. Set the intention to sit down for a few minutes every day and you'll start feeling more at peace with your soul.

I hope this helps set your meditation journey in motion! Set intentions and create a space that's yours!
