Practicing Slow Living During Covid-19

ree

Hey guys,

Has the stress of the ongoing and unending news cycle cracked you yet? I want to put it out there, a PSA of sorts: Practice some self-love right now, and put down that phone or turn off that TV.

As a graduate of journalism, I'm a firm believer in the importance of staying well informed and connected, but it's perfectly ok to set some boundaries to limit the stress that the newsreel can cause. While obsessively checking the news may keep you informed, it’s simply unhealthy.

Even I have been caught in that cycle, hoping to hear some better news. But I’ve realized, it's about controlling how I spend my scrolling or viewing time. Less social media means more time for myself and my family. Less TV time means less stress on me overall. Practicing personal self-care and self-love is important when we feel like our world is spinning out of control.

Take some time to relax, rest and recharge. It’s time to focus on your personal projects, read a book you've been putting off, or chat with an old friend. Youtube has been my best friend. I’ve taken this time to start learning new yoga poses and meditations, new recipes, how to build a backyard garden, and brushing up on my Bob Ross painting techniques. ;) I’ve dusted off my recipe books to learn some new tasty meals to cook for my family. I have been spending time getting familiar with my kitchen and the excitement in trying something new in the kitchen!

Right now it's about living slow. Slow living means to value your time and your effort. Slow living shows that the hustle and bustle aren't always what it's cracked up to be. Living life intentionally isn't a bad thing. Giving yourself breathing room to actually breathe. Meditations can be slower. Spending time with our family in the fullness of intentional slowness, soaking in the things we took for granted before.

Maybe this is our time for a hard reset. Valuing our time and our lives a little more. Let this time empower you.

I now have time to practice gratitude with each breath, wrapping my body and soul with purpose and love. I invite you to practice more self-love with me. Hug that body and that soul. You deserve some slow living self-love today!
